Financial Supports for Apprentices!

Apply Before the March 31 Deadline

The Apprenticeship Incentive Grant (AIG) and Apprenticeship Completion Grant (ACG) will end on March 31, 2025. These federal grants are available for eligible apprentices for reaching milestones such as registration, in-class training and completion. We encourage you to apply for these grants prior to March 30, 2025, to take advantage of this federal funding before it comes to an end 

Eligibility Requirements for the Apprenticeship Incentive Grant (AIG)

  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person

  • not be a high school student

  • have the required AIG supporting documents

  • registered as an apprentice in a Red Seal trade

  • provide proof that you have successfully completed either the first year (level/block) or second year (level/block) (or equivalent) in a designated Red Seal trade

  • Milestone of registration or level 1 trade school completion must have been less than 12 months ago

  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person

  • not be a high school student

  • have the required ACG support documents: copy of the Certificate of Apprenticeship and Certificate of Qualification

  • be a certified journeyperson who completed your apprenticeship training program in a designated Red Seal trade

  • Milestone of completion must have been achieved less than 12 months ago

Apprenticeship EI benefits, Tools Grant and Canada Apprentice Loan (CAL) will continue to be available and are not affected by the change.

CLAC Tuition Reimbursement

CLAC will reimburse 100 percent of apprenticeship trade school tuition fees.

BONUS! If your final trade school mark is 80 percent or higher, you can receive an additional $100.

Canada Apprentice Loan

Receive up to $4,000 in interest-free loans per period of technical training. You can use the money to help pay for tuition, tools, equipment and living expenses, to cover forgone wages or to help support your family.

Apprenticeship Incentive Grant

The Apprenticeship Incentive Grant (AIG) helps you pay for expenses while you train as an apprentice in a designated Red Seal trade.

  • The AIG is a taxable grant worth $1,000 per level, awarded to registered apprentices
  • You must complete your first year/level (or equivalent) to apply for the AIG
  • You can apply for this grant twice during your training (for a maximum of $2,000)
  • You can apply for your second AIG after completing your second year/level (or equivalent) of training

Even though the funding is ending, you can still apply! Applications will be accepted up until March 31, 2025.

Tools Grant

If you are a registered apprentice in Ontario who has completed Level 1 (Basic) in-class training, you may be eligible for this fund!  

The amount of the grant depends on the type of trade you’re apprenticing in.  

  • $1,000 for automotive power trades  
  • $600 for construction and industrial trades 
  • $400 for service trades 

Applying only takes a few minutes! Make sure to have your Client ID (found on your training agreement) and your direct deposit banking information ready.

Apprenticeship Completion Grant

A one-time taxable cash grant lifetime amount of $2,000 per person is available for registered apprentices who complete their apprenticeship training and obtain their journeyperson certification.

Anytime you are eligible for these payments you should receive an email from the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development.
